(STILL) THE PRIDE OF SPITALFIELDS

April 2026. Spitalfields. London.

I had a sneaking suspicion that Dave had picked the King’s Arms for his post-museum pint as it provided a direct route to the Pride of Spitalfields, one of the London classics on his Pub Bucket List.

The walk down Brick Lane is as exhilarating as ever,

with the old Truman’s brewery the highlight.

Possibly less dominated by the curry houses than I remember 30 years ago, with an even more diverse foodie offer these days.

But the Pride looks unchanged,

largely escaping the gentrification,

apart from the ubiquitous Five Points competing, and losing out to, the Fullers.

It’s always good to feel you’re gatecrashing a birthday party, or wake, or CAMRA Pub of the Season award.

Look at Dave’s “concentration face” as he scores the ESB (a 3, we reckoned).

It’s a marvellous pub, as BRAPA (astonishingly) took till last year to discover, comfy, unpretentious and just a little touch of East End glamour.

No, that’s not Mrs RM with the pint.

  1. Perhaps not a real ale destination pub, but still one of the top ten pubs in London. I quite enjoyed a visit to the Carpenters Arms in Cheshire street a couple of months ago, btw.
