March 2026. Cologne. Germany.

Our first day in Cologne, six Kolsch down and no plan. Let’s just admire the Old Town,

and let Mrs RM take photos she’ll wonder why she took a week later.

Wandering down through Salzgasse,

towards Martinswinkel, perhaps the architectural highlight after the Dom.

At that moment the Noddy train turned up. 25 years ago James bashed hid head on a Noddy train in nearby Koblenz, and has learned his lesson.

We crossed Hohenzollernbrücke (easy for you to say) and took the elevator to the top of Koln Triangle (five euros, cash only*),

where the views were as good as from the cathedral.

But, frankly, it’s all about the Dom. And a little pub you might just be able to see above.
*You’d be amazed how much Cologne clings to a cash economy compared to card-only Italy.
I’ll let you know how Frankfurt/Aschaffenburg compares for cash only later in the year.
