March 2026. Beverley.

There’s more to life than pubs. “No there’s not”. My blog, my rules, time for culture.
One of the bonuses of parking up in the campervan at Driffield Riverhead (£10 donation to canal conservation), apart from a quiet night (put the handbrake on) and Spoons breakfast in the morning,

is a 20 minute rail trip from the station over the road to Beverley for my first time since COVID.
Before we get to the highlights package, your quiz question for Sunday is “What’s this ?“.

I guess it’s an Autovac, most things are, but I’m prepared to be corrected.
This is definitely a Minster,

one of the finest in the country.

Closed at 4pm as I arrive, bloomin’ micropub hours, but you get the external views to yourself.
On the walk into town ou’ll get loads of actual street art,

and the map reminds me there’s a bit more to Beverley than a big church.

With an unlimited bladder capacity I’d have popped in the Monks Walk, heaving at half four.

Last time here the most notable thing about Beverley was the throng of gentlefolk shoppers buying frilly knickers and cheese, but now it’s quiet, and you can appreciate the beauty of the Guildhall,

Champneys,

and the Saturday Market.

But what do you actually DO in Beverley at 5pm on Sunday when all the shops and museums are closed ?
What a daft question.
Can’t beat a ‘spoons breakfast 🥓🥓🍳☕

We’ve got an American visitor at the moment and I’m trying to convince him that a Spoons breakfast and pint is quintessentially English.
