December 2025. Mirfield.

Enough of this “Christmas” nonsense scuppering rail plans, the 27th brings a chance to escape Sheffield and gets some steps in.
My route skips Leeds for a change, with a stop in Wakefield Kirkgate’s artistic tunnel,

and another in Mirfield.

Something to do with Star Wars, I guess.

I guarantee you can tell me nothing about Mirfield, even though I stopped there as recently as May for a nine minute half.
This time I get 20 minutes, enough time to cross the Calder, admire the allotments and the weird stuff,

and nip in the Flowerpot.

It’s a Guide pub that I’ve evidently visited before, not that it left any impression then,

or now.
Solid but a bit too polite, even though I admire these Heavy Woollen Ossett pubs.

Lots of couples getting out of the house after a Christmas probably not centred on crisps on plastic plates, I guess.

A very decent Silver King (NBSS 3.5), in fairness, and rather more conventional seating than in the Navigation. I only wish I could report as exciting an experience as Hongkong 2015.

“Males in shooting greens”, hmmm.
Was that your last Autovacs of 2025 ?

Seemingly so, Paul. I think CAMRA should start outing the pubs that don’t use autovacs.

I like the floor in the Flowerpot.
Only thing I can find out about Mirfield is that it’s the birthplace of Sir Patrick Stewart.

That’s the Star Wars guy in that second painting on the wall, isn’t it ?

Looks like him. I’ve never seen a Star Wars film though
