December 22nd 2025. Hastings.

Well, I think it’s Hastings, where the eponymous pier stands, though the video is less conclusive,
and you folks will know how much invisible and pointless boundaries matter to some people.
Mrs RM decided that at 10:52 am it was time for the Official RM birthday pub, and looked bemused as I marched her across the A259 to the theatre,

secretly hoping we were going to Accidental Anarchy’s Magical Mousemas show for under 70s.

No, Mrs RM, it’s the theatre bar-cum-hotel next door, the GBG perennial White Rock.

How many Good Beer Guide pubs have revolving doors ?

Don’t ask me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a Sam Smiths pub did.

A Beer Guide regular, if not perennial, it was overdue a visit, though it won’t compete with the Horse & Groom or Jenny Lind. Typical café bar layout,

slightly more pubby room to the rear with obscure cult classic film posters .

Mrs RM headed there and awaited a pint. I thought she’s want to share a pint of this one, it being 7.5% and all.

“Oi, don’t I get my own pint !”. You know the rest. An NBSS 4 for the Christmas Ale, rich and chewy, and at £5.50 a palpable bargain.

We’d chanced upon a table from which we could watch a thrilling piece of modern drama called “American film makers negotiate with British location“.
I’d better not disclose the actual financial negotiations, but the deal seemed to revolve Hastings being able to provide waffles rather than bagels for breakfast (not joking), and the upselling of the local Mardi Gras, which I expect to amount to a giant curated exploration of licensed premises.

Lovely folk on both sides. SEE ! We can get on with the Yanks ! And it’s good to see Americans appreciating the wonders of Hastings Old Town.
We’ll probably find out the film is about a chap from York who gets lost looking for the Wetherspoons toilets.
York Tap has revolving doors, maybe they can film our star there?

And I think Holts’s Halfway House at Droylsden.

A lot of the Hastings and St. Leonards pubs take the Harvey’s seasonal beers and also their beers other than Sussex Best. Mardi Gras is a big celebration in Hastings – https://hastingsfattuesday.co.uk/

Hastings has loads of stuff going on; a piano contest, Tap takeovers in the autumn, and happy to hear Mardi Gras is a big thing. But’s it’s still a pub crawl, yeah ?

Yes, definitely a pub crawl – One of the main parts of Mardi Gras is Unplugged Saturday, in the afternoon, when about 60 artists and bands perform 15 minute sets at 30 venues across the town.

Don’t folk from Yorkshire who can’t find pub toilets just make use of the corners of station platforms?

We always pop in there when in Hastings & have stayed there a couple of times too . Not keen on the bar but we generally sit outside & watch the traffic. I like it there. Pauline

Good to know that the Harvey’s Christmas Ale was drinking well, on cask. The bottle that I cracked open the other night was excellent, but I’m still on the lookout for the cask version.
Hastings remains a good place for a pub crawl, but looking at the map, it’s hard to know at which point the town morphs into St Leonards – not that it matters, as long as the pubs are good.
