December 2025. Sheffield.

I’ve not much to say about our final stop on Black Eye Friday, but it’s a gorgeous stop, and a favourite of Mrs RM (as long as they don’t say she can’t have a pint of the strong one).

She has now told this tale more than the one about me being teetotal when she met me (also true).
I go for Blue Bee today,

a chewy, viscous stout, and the Blake has the most “action” of any pub today.

Still a total lack of tinsel, elves and “Feliz Navidad” though, and Hallelujah to that.

Even the Christmas turkey is advertising, um, jam.
Brewing consultant David Smith got the Whim Brewery off to a good start and I remember Black Christmas as their first beer.

I remember the time of year having something to do with it !
And that the first Tuesday of December 2023 was a week too early for the Black Christmas in Macclesfield’s Castle Inn

on the fringes of Sheffield lots of pubs start carolling in November and keep going til after Christmas day, form The Sportsman at lodgemoor right round to the Greyhound at Ecclesfield and the last one is a mid winter sing at the Blue Ball Wharnecliff Side on the 9th, its the most christmassy thing you can do and worth popping in for, they usually have a sing at Fagan’s in early December if you can’t get out to Bradfield or Dungworth etc

That bartender was definitely part of the judgemental chauvinist persuasion.
