FUTURE FOLKESTONE FROLICS

December 2025. Folkestone. Kent.

Lots of pubs in Folkestone to revisit,

but the two Harbour taps that interest me (Floc and Iron Pier) don’t open till later in the week, and they’re certainly not on the itinerary for the CAMRA Defenders of the Cask Faith crawl on Saturday.

But that list reminds me that, away from the newish micropubs,

up the steep hill from the creative quarter (Mrs RM cursing me),

we find the historic Bayle, home to Greene King IPA at the Guildhall,

and something from Marston’s at the British Lion.

Those two aren’t GBG regulars anymore, but they still look gorgeous.

As do the cottages around The Bayle,

so expect more day trips to Folkestone after Christmas.

Sadly, no reviews of the Grand Burstin Hotel. Even though you can stay there tonight for £39.

  1. “Lots of pubs in Folkestone to revisit,”

    Really? 😊

“and they’re certainly not on the itinerary for the CAMRA Defenders of the Cask Faith crawl on Saturday.”

Probably a good thing. Nine pints in one day?

“up the steep hill from the creative quarter (Mrs RM cursing me),”

    (slow golf clap)

“we find the historic Bayle, home to Greene King IPA at the Guildhall,”

    (looks down at both pubs)
    They look luverly.

I’ll have to show that to my wife. I’m a firm believer in letting the garden do it’s own thing. 😎

“so expect more day trips to Folkestone after Christmas.”

    Agreed!

“Sadly, no reviews of the Grand Burstin Hotel. Even though you can stay there tonight for £39.”

I take it that it’s no longer ‘burstin’ with reservations? 😉

    Cheers

    1. Enough of your puns for one day 😉

      Cheers

Oh yes, the Grand Burstin, beloved of coach parties of pensioners for generations. It’s very tempting to stay over for £39 in the new year for “observational” purposes.
