Top 5 Transylvanian Bed & Breakfasts – Casa Cositorarului, Sighisoara

October 2025. Sighișoara.

There are two main challenges writing these foreign blogs. One is finding the right button on the phone for the mysterious “comma below”  in Romanian names, the other is limiting the number of photos so you don’t get too bored reading the posts.

Not that many folk do read the posts to be honest, initially at least.

But Sighișoara is a photographic gem, reminiscent of Rye in size and history and cobbles.

This little lane, Cositorarilor Street, has a gorgeous terrace to the left and our eponymous B & B on the right.

One of the best B & Bs we’ve ever stayed in, and Casa Cositorarului cost us £36.27 in total, including huge breakfast (patience !).

I think the word is “chintzy”.

Mrs RM will remember the name of our feline friend who accompanied our evening in the bar (there’s no craft bars in town), where a lovely young barman with better English than us was delighted to serve us local beers from 176,

Big Beer from Carlsberg and complimentary peanuts for an hour.

“Where is everybody ?” we wondered, raiding the complimentary teabags.

A bit like Rye, the Transylvania trade is very seasonal, and largely tour coaches zooming between castles once you get to Autumn.

Hence, £36 late rooms rather than the £136 you’d pay for a spotless room (with spa bath) like this one.

Honestly, it was worth £36 just for those pillows.

Wilbury loved it.

That photo below is actually pretty nice.

“But Sighișoara is a photographic gem,”

From the photo below, you can tell that it rains there quite a bit!

The price alone puts in the top 10.

“I think the word is “chintzy”.”

    Yup, let’s go with that.

Ah, so not the main ingredient of your curry, or Chinese meal then.

    “raiding the complimentary teabags.”

A better selections than their beers!

“Honestly, it was worth £36 just for those pillows.”

    No kidding!

My darling wife decided to start a rigorous 30-day diet a week ago. We’re going to a local hotel for the night afterwards and I now for sure I’ll paying a bit more than that!

    “Wilbury loved it.”

From the look on his face, I’d say he’s just able to ‘bear’ it. 😁

    Cheers
