October 2025. Bucharest.
The last of the Bucharest posts, you’ll be delighted to know. If nothing else, Mrs RM will find them useful when she comes to her own more forensic blog and wonders “Where was that fancy meringue ?”.

This was Tort de Bezea, one of numerous upmarket cafes in the snappily named Sector 1, home to diplomats, museums and Parisian-style houses.

I’ll be honest. Romania isn’t a “must visit”, Bulgaria edged it on food, but we’re enjoying getting to understand over time and (travel apart) it’s incredibly easy to explore.
Loads for fans of modern architecture (that’s me),

and street art (also me),

and smart, spotless cafes like 5ensi by BeanZ in Piati Victorei.

Mrs RM was delighted at the casual sexism here, handed the juice rather than the Grimbergen (“I’M the beer drinker, I am“) (he apologised),

but also at an impressive butter chicken that couldn’t quite compensate for the lack of curry cafes.

But perhaps we missed them ?
Piata Victorei has the cultural museums, the park with burger stalls, the dinosaur trail,

and a display on butterflies.

But for strong coffee, you need to head to the less charming surrounds of Bucharest North Station.
I didn’t know that Grimbergen had added a New England IPA to its portfolio. True to style as well, looking remarkably like a glass of orange juice.

“The last of the Bucharest posts, you’ll be delighted to know.”
Definitely the last one for me, unless I double back on the others at some point.
“one of numerous upmarket cafes in the snappily named Sector 1”
Still keeping to the old school Soviet naming I see.
“Loads for fans of modern architecture (that’s me),”
Pretty sure that’s an apartment and not a single residence, right?
“Mrs RM was delighted at the casual sexism here, handed the juice rather than the Grimbergen:
You didn’t drive so… why no beer for you? (is it a CAMRA thing?) 😉
“but also at an impressive butter chicken that couldn’t quite compensate for the lack of curry cafes.”
You’re beginning to sound like that Monty Python skit where the Brits complain they can’t get Watney’s Red Barrel while on holiday in Spain. (episode 31)
“and a display on butterflies.”
That butterfly is too small for me to figure out just where the display is on it’s body.
Cheers
PS – Apologies for being absent for a few days (hopefully it wasn’t too heart wrenching) 😎
It was our Thanksgiving weekend here (we do it a month earlier than the Yanks as our growing season is shorter). My wife and I were visiting friends for dinner, doing a Zoom with our grandkids, enjoying the outdoors with walks in the woods, as well as a brand new trail on either side of the river where it becomes the estuary, and still having our “us” time watching mindless telly or chatting in my pub.
(after this past year with our eldest we’re making more ‘us’ time a priority)
