THE SUN SETS IN WATERBEACH

September 2025. Waterbeach.

That last trip home before the new GBG was also the last weekend for Landlady Helen at the Sun, which has featured more in this blog since I left for The North than when I lived there.

Helen and Theresa had to deal with the tragic blow of losing Andrew in 2023, and leave the Fen Edge for Fen Proper with 17 year legacy of a Proper Village Pub with exceptional beer.

In a branch with a wealth of famous beer houses the Sun has been a GBG regular despite never following fashion.

So you were as likely to get Wherry or Landlord or Pride in perfect condition as micros,

and on that last weekend I stuck with Pride, predictably a 4.

So, all I can really say is thanks for the memories.

And wish new Landlord Gary, who knows what makes The Sun what it is, all the best.

Funny isn’t it? We take where we live for granted and never look at it through ‘tourist’ eyes.

“with 17 year legacy of a Proper Village Pub with exceptional beer.”

    High praise indeed.

    VERY high praise.

    (sigh) Agreed.

Keep up the tradition Gary (fingers crossed).

    Cheers

      1. It’s almost a meme.

We live in a very touristy spot (you can fish for salmon all year round). And yup, we haven’t really looked at it from a tourist point of view, apart from the fact that keeps prices high!

But we plan on changing that, now that we’re both home (at the same time!), and will start to do some touring around locally.
