CLEANING THE LINES, CLEARING THE GARAGE

March 2025. Waterbeach.

We’re still spending 2 or 3 days a week down in Waterbeach, dealing with solicitors and estate agents, but mainly seeing Dad in his care home 2 minutes walk from “Sunnyside”.

Dad seems very content, particularly now his old friend Lassie has joined him under his window.

We spent a couple of days clearing out Mum and Dad’s garage, yielding up countless bags of 1980s washing machine instructions, broken TV aerials and an award winning collection of rags.

One of our finds is the no doubt priceless porcelain figurine of Grandma you see at the top. How do I value that ?

Anyway, I was pleased with the result,

and correct bagging meant we didn’t fall foul of the rigorous inspections at Milton Recycling Centre for a change.

We deserve a beer” says Mrs RM.

The Sun is closed, so it’s a walk to the Taps (too far) or the re-opened White Horse.

The young chap behind the pumps had impressed with his cask knowledge, all that boring stuff like cleaning the lines, pulling the beer through and getting Mrs RM to taste it (I don’t do tasters).

I can’t afford to serve you bad beer” says our Oakham JHB favouring hero, a great attitude in a place primarily focused on Nepalese food.

Blimey. The Tim Taylor is a 3.5. That’s the level Landlord rarely makes these days.

OK, you might look at the price list and thing “It should be good“,

or you might wonder how Neck Oil can be twice the price of IPA. Let’s not go there today.

Let’s just rejoice that Waterbeach has a second pub where you might go to actually enjoy cask again.

Back at Sunnyside, I have the genius idea of looking at the base of Grandma for clues.

Limited Edition !!! Told you, priceless.
