February 2025. Kiveton.
The big trend in Sheffield isn’t hitherto undiscovered Victorian boozers, it’s suburban craft bars open from Thursday to Sunday.

Kiveton Tap is one of a dozen Sheffield/Rotherham micros to emerge in post COVID and stake a GBG claim.
Kiveton itself has pleasantly repurposed the old mining grounds.

20 years ago we dragged our two lads up the A1 to witness the opening of a South Yorkshire country park, because that’s the sort of dreadful parents we were, and it’s a miracle our lads aren’t scarred for life.

The Tap opens promptly at 1pm, pleasingly early,

and my only dilemma is whether or not to go for the “lemon vanilla cheesecake IPA”.

What would Paul Mudge do ?
Well, clearly he wouldn’t be here, even if the What Pub invites you to “ask what’s Key Keg”.

Oh, go away. No-one is asking whether it’s key keg, lest they inadvertently contaminate their body with non-real ale.

Neon Raptor’s Love Taker is superb, I regret not bringing Mrs RM here for a pint and one of their huge bags of crisps, even if it is a micro.

Just taste the beer, FFS
This post was written shortly after 4 pints in Goole and Doncaster in the 12 minutes between Donny and Meadowhall.

Our Elsie and Cyril used to live in Kiveton, they never had kids, so we were theirs as well, miss them 35 years on.

Yes indeed. With that lined glass I wouldn’t know if the half pint (taster) was to the lower or upper line.

Fortunately you wouldn’t need to look at the lower or upper line, as there are proper measurements on the other side of the glass 😀

I was disappointed that the Kiveton Tap didn’t make the new GBG, possibly a bit too soon. Lovely bar.
