January 2025. Leeds.
I caught the No. 39 from Meanwood back to central Leeds and suddenly felt a bit woozy, which is a bit lightweight after 3 pints, though, one of them was murk (M = 1.5*C).
So, even though the pus deposited me outside BRAPA’s favourite L***s pub*,

the completely “reimagined” Stick & Twist,

I nipped in a Spoons for a distress purchase, a free glass of water I should have factored in an hour ago.

Yes, Spoons is the home of the “distress (non) purchase”, particularly with the McDonalds across the road displaying a fierce “PATRONS ONLY” sign.

Two hours I’d been gone since leaving Mrs RM with the dregs of a Jaipur, surely time enough to tick all Leeds cultural highlights. Art Gallery, City Museum,

the gorgeous Town Hall cafe.
Nope. Nothing. And she had no shopping bags, either. “I’ve been walking“.

But she had been working, asking ChatGPT for live in Leeds recommendations.
“Have you heard of Sophie Jamieson” asks Mrs RM. “ChatGPT says she’s playing at In Store at Jumbo at 5“.

Not only had I heard of Sophie, I’d been playing (well, Tidalling) her new record that very morning.
This is the highlight.
“I Still Want To Share” is the sort of confessional, string drenched, aching album that I rave about, and after her small acoustic show to promote the LP on Jumbo’s little stage,

Mrs RM (who’d had a mug of wine here) urged me to say hello.
“Er, your record’s great, Sophie“. Old Blokes should never meet their heroes. She seemed genuinely delighted to have been recommended by ChatGPT, and that I’d be listening to her in London as well. Mrs RM explained our chaotic lives, which seemed a little ironic given the artist’s own lyrical inspiration.
Anyway, Leeds. Great for music and pubs, but will it ever be finished ?

Hopefully, not.

I’ll guess the Templar.
It really delivered when we visited last year.

It’s great when you unexpectedly a favourite artist- we stumbled across one of our favourite folk bands who were doing something live for radio 3 on the South Bank- we got a free 40 minute concert & consumed 2 large glasses of wine . It’s something I will never forget . Glad you enjoyed my home town- sadly we’ve not been back for several years- our friends and family all want to come down here to see us ! I understand it has changed a lot & mostly for the better – Meanwood used to be pretty grotty. Pauline

Meanwood had a bit of life, several interesting shop conversion type bars, but despite the Waitrose it’s definitely not posh !

ChatGPT, Tidalling? You’ve really lost me now with the youth-speak, Martin.

Martin, there’s no point me asking Matthew, as he isn’t into all that trendy youth-speak stuff, and seeing as he’s approaching his mid-30’s, there’s no reason why he should be. However, looking on Google I discovered the following definition. “The term ‘slay’ is often used as slang to describe someone who has done exceptionally well or impressed others. ”
Tidal, yet another music subscription service, and as for Sophie Jamieson, far too much angst, and dark stuff, than is good for an individual, IMO.
