December 2024. Bradford.
Back in Sheffield for a couple of days respite, a man’s thoughts turn to ticking in distant lands.

Well, they do until they see a procession (?) of delayed of the Northern trains that would take me any distance, and I cut my losses and just head to Bradford via a virtually empty carriage to Leeds.
Bradford has curry, and art,

and a grand construction project that will soon see it turned into the UK Capital of Culture.

Honest. At least, I heard Nadine Dorries announce it on BBC a while back so it must be true ? You can trust the BBC, surely ?

And you can trust Bradford CAMRA, who this year have added an unexpected Proper Pub to their GBG collection;

the Lord Clyde leaving us pub tickers scratching our heads and wondering “Where’s this been hiding, then ?“.
Well, five minutes from the Alhambra and the Kashmir on Thornton Road, hidden in plain sight.

It’s a lovely refurbishment that gives the Lord Clyde of a good boozer like the Albion,

proper seating for groups of blokes watching horseracing and rugby league,

and a beer range centred on Stancill.

Not quite ale house, but the Barnsley is a cool, creamy NBSS 3+ and lacings never lie.

a bit like Cliff Richard…

Not sure if you were still with us or not, but we visited the Lord Clyde in 2018 on the Codger’s crawl. We had it as the only non-GBG pub on the route. Tetley’s was on!

Was Richard there ? Did he say “That’s not Tetley !” ?

Marvellous.
You’ll find a new proper GBG pub in Leeds next.
Then again…

That would be that new taproom in Meanwood then, Andy…
