“I like my ice cream in a cone, not in my beer*”

November 2024. Eastbourne.

One last leg of the Eastbourne explorer now, as I tick the Art Deco Italian gelateria and craft beer with ice cream infusions bar.

Just east of the pier, Famoso is my memory of that promenade from years ago, though I also thought I’d had Harvey’s in a pub called the Armada that there’s no sign of. Perhaps because it was the Marine.

The Famoso has an exterior to almost rival the Lamb,

though in truth the fudge ice isn’t as good as I remember. Never go back.

Back up a forlorn looking Terminus Road now,

where Beerarama’s bright colours scream “new GBG tick !”.

Perhaps tellingly, it looks like Beerarama and Ninkaci opened just after the famous 2022 CAMRA Members Weekend to avoid casketeers popping in to demand to know “which ones were really real ?“.

Once again, virtually all the Untappd check-ins are of cans purchased here;

See what you missed, Paul ?

No hand pumps, obviously, but What Pub tells me some of the beers might be Key Keg. See if you can guess which from the board;

As I said last time, I don’t care, I just pick the one over 6% with the dinosaur on the top.

You’ll know what Beerarama is going to look like…

Honestly, that Bayonet of Northallerton is superb, but in Pub. No. 4 a little hard going with my train leaving in 10 minute. And you don’t want to be running for your train with a tummy full of fish and chips, Harvey’s, fudge ice cream and fizzy keg, do you ?

*Mrs RM. Probably.

  1. Armada’s the Harvey’s beer. Marine’s the pub, but not a Harvey’s pub. It was all much simpler before the sea was discovered.
    Yes, there’s a long list of venues to miss if I visit Eastbourne again. I doubt even in Tim Webb would hazard a guess as to which of those might be Key Keg.

    1. Yes I thought that as soon as I wrote it, Paul ! Only one Armada pub, oddly, in Birmingham.

      I would love to hear Tim’s views on these venues and how a customer might make an informed choice before parting with their £6. And if the answer is “tasters” I don’t wish to hear it. Perhaps Tim will write a CAMRA book called “Good beer” so I can work out which are the “Bad beers” and buy those.
