THREE FOURS IN A ROW

October 2024. Waterbeach.

Mum has been in Addenbrookes Hospital this last week, so we’ve been minding the house in between attempting to find spaces at the multi-storey car park and accompanying Mum to endless tests.

In consequence, absolutely no new GBG pubs and a growing sense of the walls closing in around me; I struggle with being in the same village almost as much as Mum struggles with the confinement of the hospital ward.

Still, a chance to fall back in love with the local,

which recovered magnificently from a rather disappointing vegan and gluten-free effort from Woodforde’s, who ought to stick to Wherry and Nog. I note from Untappd that “Pinecone” was badly received elsewhere.

Mrs RM stayed home while I ordered the Saturday night Chung Hwa and nipped in for a 10 minute pint,

that turned into a 20 minute couple.

Reader, she was there by 19:52.

Cool, rich and chewy are my three words to describe that Citra, and the Golden Best was even besterer.

A group of lads in their 30s discussed gaming over pints of Neck Oil, but Helen sells enough cask in Lounge and Public to convince me to give the latest Woodforde’s seasonal a try the next night, and although I wish they’d stick to Nog and Wherry, the Trail Ale was a 3rd NBSS 4 of the weekend, a palpable hit. Sometimes, beer is just perfect*.

*Well, OK, techically perfect is NBSS 5 but no-one gives that, surely ?
