STRUGGLING

October 2024. Lincoln.

Yes, a near seven hour crawl around a steep hill,

concluding with Lincoln’s most famous couple of pubs, though the ordering of that fame has changed a bit of late.

We were joined at some point at the top of the hill by Barb and Joan, stars of Channel 5’s hit “The Southworths Wives“.

They’d sat out the first half of the crawl, either because of the incessant rain or an exploration of the Lincolnshire fudge shops, but their undoubted appreciation of the qualities of the Strugglers confirmed my view.

This is Lincoln’s “must visit”, not for the beer range,

or even beer quality (though a murky Atom pale was a 3.5).

This is what we call a “cultural melting pot”, a place where someone perches on your table and you don’t know whether they’re going to start discussing Kerouac or Kilmarnock FC.

If only, only, there was a ban on shorts…

NB That last pic was from a fleeting visit to a forlorn Victoria. Goodish XXXB, no trade at all. What went wrong ?
