My Mum always says “If you’ve nothing good to say, say nothing“, but she doesn’t mean it, and this blog GUARANTEES to tell the truth, so here’s the truth about the new industrial estate tap in Linton.

Linton ? Yes, the first posh village heading south-east out of Addenbrookes into the Suffolk/Essex borders, a village notable for a zoo where a young BRAPA of this parish had animal disappointment 36 years ago.

I think this is what you missed, Si.

Mere yards from the animals sits Wylde Sky Brewery, which I note I attempted to buy a beer from during the 2020 Covid take-out craze. But failed, as it was closed. A brewery tap closed ? Surely not.

I couldn’t begin to guess why it’s taken 4 years for a rural Cambs brewery tap to make this year’s Guide. Well, I could, but let’s not.

These places don’t fill your hearts with pubby joy, particularly when you realise they’ve edged the Waterbeach Sun out of the Guide, but let’s ignore the industrial decor,

and high tables,

and focus on the beer, shall we ?

Let’s not. It tasted like those Penzance home brews in the Crowlas Star that at least had the advantage of being in a Proper Pub. I had the keg stout as well, much better, but too carbonated.

BUT…what lovely people, both barman and customers, what an asset to Linton. Lots of parents with toddlers, all playing the piano at the bar.

“You like a beer don’t you, Millie ?“. Millie is unconvinced.

I read the Linton News for 20 seconds,

and remembered why I’d escaped Cambridgeshire for Sheffield.

  2. Nice artwork, but that’s about it, as it looks like every other, identi-kit, industrial unit, micro- brewery.

    These places work in the US, or at least the ones I have seen do, but in an English village, then no. And if the beer isn’t up to much either, then definitely no!

    3. Drinking beer is a pleasure.
      Being in a nice pub is a pleasure.
      The two done together is a pleasure far greater than the sum of the two.

      The corollary is self-evident, I think.

  3. Looks like a lot of public transport effort for an AVG brew tap. Let me predict no ales are present on my visit to mirror the zoo disaster. I’ll ask Mummy BRAPA to drive me actually, old times sake!

    1. All the Tabithas and Emilys running around playing pool and piano made taking pics a problem. I really love seeing children in pubs with their parents, keeps them out of dangerous places like Chinese takeaways.
