September 2024. Sheffield.
A (short) break from pubs, as I encourage Mrs RM out for a walk round the lesser-known reservoirs in north Sheffield, 15 minutes from Retired Martin Towers.

Picked at random, More Hall Reservoir draws you in with villages called Wigtwizzle, Bolsterstone, and the mysterious Ewden Village, a timber built hamlet constructed for the reservoir team. It is said to be the only village in England without a micropub.
Ladybower, just up the A57 draws the masses, but it takes less than two minutes to realise that More Hall is also a classic,

its charms appreciated by Stockbridge and Wharncliffe dog walkers, fishermen and dreamers over many decades.

The walk takes less than an hour,

but you could branch off into the forest and might, eventually, find yourself at a pub in Bradfield.

At Ewden Beck we find a group with what looks like metal detectors, searching no doubt for Wards Brewery memorabilia.

The entrance to the hamlet itself has a big sign saying “Private – Keep Out“. So we do.
There’s holiday accommodation, possibly in this bijou caravan.

But is there a pub to make a holiday here bearable for anyone outside the metal detectorists ?

Well, the Castle is a mile up the road in Bolsterstone, and if Mrs RM hadn’t had to rush back to receive a package from a postman we’d definitely have scored the Black Sheep. No, that package wasn’t the new GBG.
