Tramlines Fringe, a genuinely wonderful weekend of largely original live music across Sheffield.
And not just in the usual suspects of the real ale bars like the Shakespeare. The late opening clubs along West Street that serve Madri till 4 in the morning deserve massive credit for promoting live music.
So from the Hallamshire we walk 20 seconds to FirePit Rocks, which I’d never even noticed before, tucked between Molly Malone’s and Tiger Works.
Chicken wings and Indie raves and graffiti and video games.
You’re shocked there’s no Draught Bass, I bet, but Salt’s Jute is a good keg offer under £6, served in actual glass.
Hull’s excellent Breeze provide your free entertainment.
They cock up the intro to their new single, and the singer says “That’s how many Madris I’ve had“, which made me smile.
DON’T say “sounds like A***** M***** “.
Mrs RM decides to stay put, and has a cheap but tasty plastic tub of wings.
Honey Trap, the last band of the night, do throw in some covers (“Black Magic Woman” a standout),
and hand me a little QR code which one day I will work out how to use.
A great night, and some headwear you won’t see in the CAMRA-approved pubs, and all the better for it.

Dave, You’ve reminded me that fifty years ago I was working at the Hull Brewery for several weeks, a £20.50 wage for a forty hour week.

Etu, Yes, five years later my weekly wage had doubled ( 1970s inflation + higher pay back in Stafford ) but I could start buying a house for £12,650. What’s gone wrong ?
