ON SEAHAM BEACH

July 2024. Seaham.

Another week, another snatched overnighter in the North-east,

heading now from pashmina Yarm to parmo Peterlee (or something), though I missed out the Apollo Pavillion as it might be too brutalist for Mrs RM’s Instagram followers,

and instead headed inland to the more tourist-friendly beach at Nose’s Point (top),

where I spent a memorable night in the campervan after Covid lockdown (1) ticking Seaham.

I then annoyed Mrs RM by standing in front of the statue of Tommy,

and she stood in my picture but I’ve used my magic eraser to rub her out. I thought you might see her shadow in the picture, but some things cast no shadow, as Oasis once sang.

To complete tourist Seaham we popped down to Glass Beach,

a name suggesting a beach made entirely out of colourful remnants from the Londonderry bottleworks.

But this is all we found.

Mind, we only looked for 10 minutes. We have the patience of a gnat.
