July 2024. Newcastle.
A stressful 5 days down in Waterbeach, and returning to Sheffield last Thursday I felt in urgent need of a few quiet days at home a night somewhere completely different.

Actually, what I wanted was a few new Northumberland Beer Guide ticks, and by noon on Friday we were passing the Angel of the North on the way to GBG24’s most intriguing newbie.

A brand new building for the rowing club, too, and an odd combination of sports club, party venue and family diner.

I’m dispatched to the bar while Mrs RM looks for a table.

Some sort of family drama seemed afoot, with the kitchen about to close, and it took a good 10 minutes to get a half of the local Firebrick Blonde as one tireless bar maid handled food orders, a coffee machine and complex questions from vegans about sausage rolls.
Mrs RM picked the seat nearest the mum with baby learning nursery rhymes; singalong with this classic. The baby went “wee !”.
and judged the beer “nice” (NBSS 3+). I didn’t score the diet coke.

On the way out I pick up one of the free sheets.

Yes, they even have their own branded childrens activity sheets. Take that, Sam Smiths.
At 1700 last night Fog On The Tyne came on in the pub. A Geordie contractor some way from home joined in note and word perfect, which you don’t hear every day.

Lindisfarne or Gazza version ?

I wouldn’t be reporting the second, as you well know Martin.
Pretending to be a bit lacking in insight can be cute though.
Sometimes.
Whatever, this takes me back to the first group that I ever saw at the Nottingham Boat Club. King Crimson it was and I still have the tinnitus to remind me.

I’m too young for the 70s original, so see Gazza’s as definitive.

Hmm.
I hear twenty-somethings singing along with Bad Moon On The Rise so I remain open minded on the point

Yes, it’s amazing how many 60s classics the twenty-somethings know by heart.

I heard Lindisfarne twenty years and two days ago at the opening of Stafford’s Tap and Spile which Martin walked past thirteen days ago just short of the Kings Arms.

Sorry, that of course should have been “THIRTY years and two days ago”. Time goes so fast at my age.

My earlier comment seems to have disappeared. It was about when I saw Lindisfarne at the opening of Stafford’s Tap and Spile pub.

It seemed to drift away like the fog on the Tyne. But it’s back now.

Your Coke? The beer looks closer to you in the photo? 🙂

Casual sexism.
We tend to rotate the soft drink and beer to enhance the artisanal experience, Andy.
