June 2024. Sheffield.
Or in Ian Thurman, the Wickingman’s case, Youlgrave to Sheffield Cathedral,

a 7 hour (plus compulsory rest stop) walk to raise money to install a toilet in Ian’s micro pub or something. Oh, something even more vital.

What a hero. I said I’d meet him at the end of his venture at Sheffield’s top Bass outlet.

Well, you’d never know he set off at dawn that Saturday morning.

“Fancy a Pale Rider ?”.

I couldn’t have caused my offence if I’d spelt his village Youlgreave.
Never have I seen a man enjoy 2 pints in quick succession so much. What a winning smile.

I’ll gloss over the fact we didn’t get Bass glasses, but Will who arrived just after us, and if beer tastes better in a pint glass then it tastes even better in a branded glass (discuss, show workings).
I reckon green chilli poppadoms or Hendos crisps add 0.25 to NBSS as well.

I left Ian in the warm embrace of lovely Maggie and an army of ardent fans and followed Will to the Bath, where the Guvnor Brian is apparently now serving Barnsley Bitter at NBSS 4.5 levels.
You know, he is and all. Will never lies about beer quality.

And I never lie about Chinese takeaways.

While Chung Hwa is now back on top (epic squid last week), my Hillsborough go-to is certainly a Top 3.
It’s both Youlgrave and Youlgreave, but it’s pronounced “grave”, to the confusion of incomers.
For example, Pubs Galore has Youlgrave while WhatPub has Youlgreave. I’m sure I’ve seen the name with both spellings in the vicinity of the village.

It’s no wonder they can’t get a place in the GBG with all that tomfoolery.

Are Hendo’s crisps actually a thing? If so, I want some.

I think he slept on a barrel of Bass and went back the next morning.

I’m confused dot com.
You say no branded glasses yet the two pints photographed are clearly in Bass glasses.

They were glasses stolen from Will for the purpose of the glamorous photo shoot. We couldn’t have the Saviour of Bass drinking from an unbranded pint.
