A CHEEKY WELCOME TO THE GUIDE FOR ST. LEONARDS WELCOME

April 2024. St. Leonards.

Finally, another half mile up the hill from the Tower, past the subtle street art,

we come to a 3rd distinct area of St Leonards and an actual new (NEW) GBG tick.

The Welcome has subtle charms,

the joy of that facade only noticed as I look at the close-up a week later.

The decor isn’t to everyone’s taste, I wager,

a bit “neighbourhood gastro-lite” if you like, but it’s cosy and comfortable, a really mixed crowd, perhaps more Pauline than Mudg(i)e.

Three local beers, not too bad,

and obviously enough trade, as the Long Man Blonde is cool and clean (3.5),

and I won’t knock off a half point for the flowers on the table.

Just a pleasant, welcoming, neighbourhood pub playing your ’80s classics,

I don’t think that’s the sheet music for Echo Beach on the wall.

I never did work out these lyrics in the Gents;

Right, time to eat.
