February 2024. Battersea.
2 nights in Battersea Travelodge, 2 pubs before Mrs RM arrives.

Quite a contrast between the Victorian splendour of the Falcon,

and across the road the glory of a furniture store experiencing rebirth as a new Spoons (OK, via a Yate’s).

Decent business at 14:30 on a Monday, and a rather different clientele than in their effervescent Asparagus half a mile up toward the river.

Not as much fun as the cultural melting pot of the Asparagus, and that’s a particularly dull carpet, but this is a remarkably beer-led Spoons.

That £3.15 became £2.45 after a scruffy “CAMRA saves cheap beer” voucher is presented at the bar, so there must have been a Monday club discount as well.
You won’t get better value for your £2.45 in London, the Big Chief a cool, fruity NBSS 3.5 without any sign of The Long Pull.

Expertly matched with a late lunch breakfast of those crispy chicken bites that sustained me through the worst days of ticking Scotland, I wondered if I actually needed to leave the comfort of Spoons today.

But then I realised I had Raynes Park and Teddington to tick, my heart leapt in anticipation of those joys ahead, and I headed for the Travelodge.
Can’t beat a Big Chief now and again, I may have to drag myself in there for the tick.

I would do. Don’t know if it was a special event but the local beer range looked as good as any I’ve seen in Spoons recently.

We had Big Chief in the Ramsgate Spoons. I really liked that beer. I’ve noticed Citra and I tend to like very different beers. Big Chief seems to have a wide appeal.

If it isn’t it should be.

I am looking forward to your write up of the Cavern music venue in Raynes Park
AC/DC cover bands, Sharps Sea Fury and a large poster of Eric Clapton in a Mimi Vice outfit.

It will be with you within the hour, Alan, but you may have saved me a job there.

Stronger ales usually the best bet in Spoons, IME; they must shift quicker.
