“You dancing ?”, “You asking ?”. BAY CITY ROLLERS IN THE WHITE STAR

February 2024. Liverpool.

Since City got Haaland the Norwegian tourists now flock to Manchester rather than Beatlesland, and the Cavern Quarter looked quieter than usual last Sunday afternoon.

But that was because they were in the bars watching the Reds lose, or packing out the restaurants of Bold Street. Liverpool doesn’t wind down on Sunday nights.

But, although the tourists took the photo of the White Star‘s timeless exterior,

they then headed into Legends Sports Bar for Guinness.

Their loss.

My first visit since just before C*v*d, Mrs RM’s first ever. And look what’s back on the bar;

Mrs RM, off the beer all week, succumbed to a Dizzy Blonde.

I’m saying nowt.

She’s doing a blog post on England’s third city (3rd after Manchester and Preston), and I told she’d need to pop in the back rooms for the money shots.

But for now, all we needed was the front bar.

Remember those green gloves.

A soundtrack aimed at the gentlefolk; The O’Jays, Smokie, Tina Charles. A soundtrack about 5 years before my introduction to music, but I love this one;

and talking of bands of gold reminded me I’d forgotten to get my own band of gold fixed in the Liverpool Ernest Jones store where 6 months ago I’d had emergency surgery (see here, if not squeamish).

Mrs RM was convinced that “I Love To Love” was by The Nolans rather than Tina Charles. It provoked the sort of heated argument that we go to pubs for.

The Bass was good enough, if a bit thin (3),

the White Star was just far, far, too good.

Worth the price of a Bass just for the squeak of joy from the lady in green gloves as “Bye Bye Baby” started,

Press “PLAY” below now.

Yes, I am a voyeur, not a dancer.

It was wonderful to see, as was the busier back room,

approached via one of the best collections of sporting memorabilia anywhere.

Oh look, Bass boats and Beatles in the same cabinet.

What a combination.
