MINI PLOUGHMANS IN WEST LINDSEY

December 2023. Laughton. Lincolnshire.

A penultimate tick in Lincs GBG24, and perhaps the archetypal Lincolnshire village local.

I liked the Ingram Arms in Laughton, but I wouldn’t have fancied getting the bus there from Gainsborough (one bus weekly, returning before it arrives).

You can feel safe in a place that takes egg security seriously.

Be honest. You have no idea where Laughton is, do you.

South of Sunny, just east of the Trent, handsome church.

Nice looking pub, too, trying to be all things to all of it’s population.

No fuss, 90s decor, roaring fire.

Two beers are plenty.

I asked the local at the bar what he was drinking. He didn’t reply “Another Black Sheep, please”.

Mrs RM reckoned it was “nice”. She was less convinced by the £1.50 Ploughman in a packet.

I had one of those Heineken 0.0 things from the giant barrel. It was OK. Really.

This is, notably, one of only seven (7) rural Lincolnshire pubs without soft porn or a hunting scene in the Gents. That must count for something.

A local family were having a pre Christmas lunch, humming along to Ariane Grande’s attempt to join the immortals of Christmas music.

There’s more modern Xmas music than you might think. What’s wrong with “Stop the Cavalry” ?

In a village where they take their eggs seriously.

it seemed out of place.

    1. Pint glass. Water. Egg. If egg sinks to bottom, it’s fine. If it floats in the middle, still good but needs using. If it floats at the top, it’s off.
