PRIMARY SCHOOL REUNIONS AT THE BATH HOTEL

December 2023. Sheffield.

The problem with living in Sheffield is that temptation is round every corner. And while new GBG entries require 3 days worth of supplies for your trek into the wilds of North Yorkshire and beyond,

a half hour uphill stroll will take you to Guide perennials like the Bath Hotel. Yes, down there.

I asked Will to join me, he had a better offer (Old Tom, I think), but he’s been telling me how good the Bath is these days and I hate when people have a more informed opinion on a pub than me.

So excuse me telling you about the heritage building blah blah blah,

and let me tell you what a lovely community pub the Bath is these days, and how glorious the Barnsley Bitter (3.5+).

Some longstanding friends from Southey Green primary school days had called in for their Christmas reunion, ale drinkers (nearly) all, and the lady on the next table got to take their group photo.

When were you at Southey Green, 20 years ago ?” asks the wag, to the ladies delight.

Say CAMRA discount” is the new “Cheese“. I admire folk who keep in touch with their school mates like these ladies and my own lad James.

I stayed to enjoy the cheery reminiscences, the talk of home economics rather than hops, and had a silky pint of Plum Porter (NBSS 3.5).

That would have been a perfect time to end the session, but it never goes like that, does it…

  1. “folk who keep in touch with their school mates”
Next month I should be meeting up with a pal I started school with in 1960.
I might manage a pint in the Ale Wagon with changing trains there or back.
