PLANNING RETIRED MARTIN’S BIRTHDAY (22/12)

A bit more about Mrs RM to come, but with only two sleeps to go, Retired Martin Day will soon be here. Where will YOU be ?

More importantly, where will I be ? Somewhere with a new GBG pub to tick, hopefully.

Actually, my ONLY requirement for 22 December joy is that I’m somewhere I haven’t been before, and for many years that meant taking a cheap trip abroad, most notably to Belgium and Morocco for significant birthdays.

No foreign 10% beers for us this year, though we’ve had a good run in Europe in 2023, unlike Man United, so it’s somewhere in the UK in 2 days time.

But where ?

So much choice from the 400 odd pubs still to tick, though none of them could match my 33rd birthday at the Dyffryn Arms.

Ideally I’d like to be a bit surprised by my destination, have a good meal, and be able to boast about it on this blog, like last year in Youlgreave when I met the man who saved Bass.

But where ? You can guess, I haven’t a canoe.

      1. I’m on top form at the moment -even got a few answers right on University Challenge last night. Are you really going to Seaton Carew ? Hard core !

  1. You’ve obviously been to far more pubs than me so it gives me some small pleasure to see some that I’ve been to which are still on your list. The Bank, Anstruther, The Lock Inn, Fort Augustus and the Portwall Tavern, Bristol await. Strangely, during my (very) long time in Bristol, the Portwall was decidedly mediocre. Must have upped its game.
