A LOCAL HERO

December 2023. Waterbeach.

A pattern is now emerging; mid week spent in Waterbeach, a day either side in Tunbridge Wells, back home to Sheffield at the weekend.

At least Mrs RM is now with me in Cambridge, and she joined our Thursday quiz team at the Sun as we sought vengeance for a corrupt defeat a fortnight ago (VAR only available in Brunning & Price quizzes).

The Sun seems to have settled on a range of three, anchored by Young’s Ordinary, or “London Original” as they hilariously call it now. I’d learnt me lesson 2 weeks ago and started quizzing with a pint of coke in front of me, leaving Mrs RM to sample this odd pale beer from Brighton (NBSS 4),

and a rarely seen Woodforde’s Stout.

Not that it affected Mrs RM as she powered us to victory by knowing that the hair based fabric was “felt”, and I’m sure that 57.8% Brewdog Eisbock was empty before we got there.

We actually pipped a studious looking team, probably shipped in from Landbeach, who’d called themselves BagelSteve, the notorious acronym that scuppered us a fortnight back.

To the victor the spoils, enough to buy that celebratory pint of Young’s, though sadly not the accompanying bar of fruit and nut as the One Stop Shop had cruelly shut at 10.
