November 2023. Leeds.
You know where Leeds is, I’ll spare you the maps.
Northern Rail didn’t seem to know where Leeds was, as I attempted to get to Burley Park for my gig.

Just the 32 minutes late for a 27 minute journey, meaning that despite a brave dash through the multicultural quarter of the student city,

I arrived in time to miss all but 2 minutes of Mui Zui, so I’ll score her a 5 anyway.

Time for a pint and a pie in the Brudenell before Julie Byrne, and frankly I deserved a pint here having been DES to Mrs RM’s designated drinker twice this year.

Note healthy half pint of water. Too little, too late.
The Kirkstall salted caramel milk stout was a little too sweet, but as well presented (3.5) as ever in one of Leeds top pubs, and the Pieminster Moo pies with proper crust remain underrated.

You can drink here without a gig ticket, and it’s a favourite with students who like practice their queuing before visiting Spoons.

Very few students (Are gigs too expensive ? Is beer too cheap ?) to watch Julie Byrne, whose emotional set showcased her astonishing new record.
In fact, you’d rarely see a gig more “cerebral blokes with a tear in their eyes” as The Greater Wings started.

Cerebral with a huge plate of pie and mushy peas in their tummy, in one case.
So, arriving late at the gig because of a totally unnecessary jaunt to that Harrogate, and it’s all the fault of Northern?
I hope you managed to convince Julie Byrne with those tears.

Good grief it’s a poor state of affairs when your rail system isn’t 100% reliable. I must claim my £4.20 back.

Sounds like there was a lot of convincing going on. Easy to get overlooked.

Used to know the blokes from Pieminister, still got some of their polystyrene boxes round the back, useful when defrosting the freezer(s)

But why peas on top of the pie ?

…on top of the mash?
Because they can.
