October 2023. Sheffield.
A rainy Friday night in Sheffield had kept the students away, and that rain was about to scupper Saturday’s Beer Festival too.

But our two bedraggled Hampshire (Hook and Hartley Witney) visitors and three locals weren’t deterred by a soaking.
But perhaps the rain was the reason we ended up in new micro Two & Six on a route that would normally lead to the Kelham Klassics.

If you’ve been in Bar Stewards/West Bar/Lost In etc etc you’ll know what this looks like, a one roomer with good seating and beer but without any lived-in feel yet.

Mick and Citra liked the beer, and I have an awful feeling that this is where IT happened.

This is where Mrs RM joined Untappd. It certainly wasn’t in the Three Tuns, where I was ushered out of the back door even though Plum Porter was on.

But by the time we reached (inevitably) the Crow, two lads at the bar were asking me if I’d just “checked-in” the Almasty on Untappd.

What !

Now I’m an open-minded man, but I draw the line at Zoophilia, Maidenhead and scoring beers.
And here was Mrs RM, who I oft presumed to have some control over, writing about beer as if it mattered. And she’s the one who’ll say “I like my beer to taste like beer, me“. See how far you get with that attitude on Untappd, dear.
Just as well the beer was good all night, a night that ended for us at the Wellington (inevitably).

What a great pub, what a great pub city,

what a terrible idea to score your beers*.
*Completely different from scoring the pub on What Pub.
She’ll be doing beer bongs soon.

And doing samples with young people at the bar. Incorrigible.

You’re just embarassed that her average beer will be 12%, and yours will be 3.2%.

3.4%, surely?

Only if he drinks a few more Plum Porters.

de Garre works better.

A memorable day in Bruges introduced me to the joy of De Garre, which I never realised till later was THAT strong !

As I understand it, they impose a three beer limit on the de Garre Tripel!
It’s very nice and semi-regular at the TripelB in Worcester.

One was plenty. I could have overdosed on the cheese though !

I must pop in the Tripel B. Found a really good spot for my campervan near the river in Worcester earlier this year

Let me know when you do, the beer is on me.

Next door to the TripelB, the Oil Basin is currently serving draught Schlenkerla beer as well as others in bottle (real ales are available)

Ive used Untappd for over 12 years, logged nearly 18000 beers in that time, and quite happily survived on a “I like my beer to taste like beer” approach to it, based on using the NBSS of course. Doom Bar averages just under 3.25 on my ratings, in case you wondered 🙂

I really did wonder !

When Google reviews that say “great beer range” usually mean Madri, Foster AND Carling, and What Pub not being particularly up to date, (“last updated 2017” etc across lots of south-east Wales anyway) I find Untappd quite useful.

But Untappd never tells you how many mobility scooters are outside or when quiz night is.
