I AM BRAPA’S TAXI – SOUTH YORKSHIRE COMPLETE

October 2023. Sheffield/Deepcar/Mexborough.

Yes, it’s the annual BRAPA/Retired Martin meet-up, where I carry out my remaining life’s work of helping Simon complete the GBG (in his lifetime, if not mine). Think of it as John the Baptist and Jesus, even though that analogy doesn’t work.

I love, love, LOVE meeting up with Simon, and not just so I can compare Beer Guides and go “I’ve done it all, y’know” or so that Baa Baa Toure can meet up with Colin. I feel Baa Baa is a bit confused by the on-off relationship and may complain about Colin on Mumsnet.

I also like going “SEE ! I told you the Raven, 2 minutes from Taylor Towers, would make the Guide and you wouldn’t listen oh no“.

Simon’s assessment here much the same as mine; good quality beer, high quality finish, lacks a bit of lived-in look. It might come.

Being DES meant testing the lime and soda again. It looked like Colin had too much soda.

I’d had enough soda after one, and sat out the King & Miller in Deepcar, which is definitely Stocksbridge.

I was only here last month, loved it, but wanted to let Simon have the chance to fully engage with the pub rather than chatting to me about GBG “tactics”.

Instead it appears he got lost in the revelry of a late ’80s “adult pop” soundtrack.

Si twitted “standard of pubs in 2024 GBG seems high this year” and that’s certainly a theme of my own posts. Friendly welcome, high quality beer, bit of quirkiness; all of those at the Gorilla Tap which seems to have escaped the attentions of Bing Maps but is very much down by the Mexborough Riviera.

Since Simon is so far behind with his own blog I’d best tell you here there were more than one trip upstairs to the Gents. It comes to us all, Si.
