LEFT LUGGAGE, LEFT OUT OF THE GBG

October 2023. Monkseaton. Tyneside.

Having ticked the annual (and inevitably excellent) North Tyneside Beer Guide newbie I walked the ten minutes to Monkseaton Metro,

admiring the roadside pubs (and opticians),

and wondering what the Front Street Tap had done to lose out on GBG glory this year.

Or, come to that, the Left Luggage Room at the Station.

Of course, it could be the beer is inconsistent, or a change of licensee or other uncertainty. Or more likely that Tyne & Wear just doesn’t have enough entries for their excellent pubs.

Because that rushed half of Two by Two in the station’s waiting room was once again nectar,

and if the metro wasn’t efficient I’d have stayed for another,

but as the sign says, Be More Keith.

But not THAT Keith.

  1. The Left Luggage room didn’t make it into the GBG because the beer is often less than good. They once started selling a cask beer from Three Kings as soon as it was rolled into the cellar, claiming it was supposed to be cloudy, which it wasn’t. That said, there’s a lot of disquiet from a number of GBG regulars about being excluded for the Camraistas favourites, mostly micros, which aren’t always good at all.

    1. As I said in fact

“Of course, it could be the beer is inconsistent”.

I never question the judgement of local CAMRA branches just because I’ve had excellent beer somewhere 3 times in a row, it’s the regular drinkers who get a pub in the Guide.
