DAVE’S PIE & ALE HOUSE, LEEDS

September 2023. Leeds.

Some GBG pub men start the new Guide year with arduous trips to get adventurous ticks in before winter. I believe BRAPA has ventured into Lincolnshire.

I’m collecting the “low hanging fruit”, like a lone Leeds newbie.

You remember Leeds ?

Home to ITV studios where 3-2-1 was filmed, it seems.

Nowadays Leeds is best known for the neverending building works outside the station, an attempt to emulate Birmingham.

My target is a long hike east of town along Kirstall Road. I really should have popped in preemptively on the way to Kirstall Brewery or the Brudenell last year, but now it’s in the Guide I can take time to enjoy it.

Small but lovely. Just like Mrs RM.

Simon was here last week drinking the Chocolate Old Peculier (3). I know that because he posted on Untappd, a beery version of trainspotting without the charm.

For the record, this was a positively sultry last Tuesday of September, my back unattractively sticking to the bench.

Perfect weather for a Stilton pie and peas then.

My mouth is still recovering from the volcanic blast of that pie, but 3rd degree burns apart it was a joy of a late lunch.

No other punters to enjoy a soundtrack of Queen, Solsbury Hill (again) and Layla (long version), and a friendly barmaid who confessed the quiet gave her time to read her book (and hopefully enjoy her own playlist).

Shame she didn’t remind me to read the sign at the top of the stairs down to the loos.

Ouch !

Too late, sign.
