I’d arranged to meet Mrs RM at the Dog & Duck for my penultimate West Sussex Guide tick at 4pm.
What Pub said it opened at 4, the pub’s Facebook said 4. It must be true.
On the walk back along the beach from the George, Mrs RM texted me “Closed today“.
A year ago, with GBG completion on the line, this would have been crushing. In 2023, it was just irritating. I clung to the fact that the new Bognor micro had moved round the corner and Mrs RM may have been staring at the previous incarnation.
But there it was;
Hang on. It’s not 20/8, it’s 22/8. That’s Sunday’s sign. I checked their Facebook again and find they’re back open from 5. Why is it so hard ?
An hour in the Spoons, then. They want my trade.
What a truly grotesque building, but definitely one of the jolliest JDWs.
Mrs RM is working on her blog. I stop for an Abbot, cool and tasty (3.5) and cheap, but not cheap for most of the cask patrons who stick to Ruddles.
Can’t fault the Hatters, but after knocking off a quick blog post I reckon I’d better see what Bognor has to offer the stay-at-home vacationer in 2023.
