August 2023. Leamington Spa.
It was still only 16:36 and I’d done the ticks and the pre-emptive ticks and the weird plants and I had a long night in Leamington Spa ahead of me. Who orders a Chinese takeaway before pm in a Spa town ?
I perused What Pub.

Blimey, what a lot of pubs on the West bank.
Leaving the floral displays behind, I headed up Clarendon and down Lansdowne to assess my options.

Prince of Wales (renamed Leif Tearooms & Piano Bar) – Pornstar Martini

The Clarendon – Carling

The Spa – Flat White and Hot Stone Massage

Hope & Anchor – Guinness

Greyhound – Doom Bar

The Builders Arms – Doom Bar

All human life is here, certainly, but I just wasn’t feeling it, as the kids say. And Pubs Galore reviews of Leam pubs seem to stop around 2014. Better research would have led me to West Midlands Explorer’s Paul and his crawl reports, but hey ho.
I returned to the Parade, under threatening skies,

where a film crew had set up on the junction with Regent Street, restricting access to JoJo Maman Bébé’s baby shop (keg).

Your guess as to which movie is being filmed here is as good as mine.
Another Austin Powers movie cor blimey!

Whatever it’s about, the ‘Fare Deal’ ad on the bus suggests it is set in the early 1980s.

Love those threatening skies!
Perhaps I’ll make a trip to Leamington and write some reviews for Threatening Skies Galore.

If you think Leamington is threatening you should see Kenilworth (not Road).

I reckon Leamington might make a decent trip, if trains work out. The last one (New Inn) is the best. Easy 2 mile walk into Warwick as well.

Hi Martin – thanks for the plug, I wondered why a post from a few years back was suddenly attracting unexpected attention!!! Leamington is quite often used as a filming location, including for the rehash of Upstairs Downstairs a few years back. Your pictures certainly bring back a few memories, especially of the Builders (I still don’t know who that bloke is on the side, presumably the landlord) and the Hope & Anchor. There’s a lot to go at for a town that seems so genteel on the surface. Cheers, Paul

You missed the best pub – by far – in Leam……..The New Inn on Leam Terrace.

Couldn’t agree more mate, but I certainly didn’t miss the New Inn. Last pub of the night and the best. Keep reading and you’ll see it !
