July 2023. Cheshire.
I had a good think about whether to lump loads of pubs together in this post and then thought “No, less is more, stick to one pub per post“. The Jesus & Mary Chain were always at their best when their live shows lasted 15 minutes rather than 90.
Mrs RM had been “regulating” her beer intake of late, but allowed herself a break from that dangerous abstemiousness as we picked Saturday to tackle some tricky GBG pubs in the delightful county of Cheshire.

Well, the county and its people are nice, but opening hours often less so.
Take Chapter Brewing, for instance;

I reckon twelve (12) hours* might be the shortest opening window in GBG23 now that the New Mills six hour wonder has slipped out.
And before someone else says “they can open when they want“, let me just say “they can open when they want“, and Chapter opens when it says it will, too. It’s a working brewery, opening up on weekends to give us a taste of their fresh beers.
In fact, now I’ve completed the Guide, I’m very happy if the GBG contains entries like this that make it incredibly difficult for the rest of the tickers (cue evil cackle).
Chapter has a lovely setting next to the Weaver, between rustic Runcorn and, er, fabulous (?) Frodsham.

No, it really does.
Of course, brewery taps are never going to compete with Sam Smiths or JD Wetherspoons for external beauty,

but Chapter has big wooden barrels and long tables,

and serves Pipers crisps.

And it’s not their fault that Mrs RM got to drink the beer she thought was “Mmmmm” (my dregs suggested a 4), a pale one and a porter I think.
They’re very good, says someone who knows;
And, as you’d expect in Runcorn, they were the nicest folk you’ll ever meet.
*Just seen slightly new and better hours on Facebook, obviously different to the ones on What Pub etc etc

Ah my favourite, not been able to get there for ages as it’s over an hour walk and my leg has been bad. Nice to see extended opening hours

Went past there every school day for seven years on the school bus – the site was a small factory of some kind back then.
