TERRIBLE TUESDAYS

Don’t worry, Three Sheets to the Wind, I’ll be back two days later praising you to the skies.

A nice short post for you as recover from The Death of Bazball. Word Press tells me you’ll be able to read this in one (1) minute, but then those calculations suggest I could read a WHOLE Blackpool Jane or BRAPA post in less than a month.

Not so much a moan, more an observation that the curtailing of opening hours due to staffing/lack of trade etc seems to have extended to wipe out Tuesday lunchtime drinking (and dining if they do it).

It seems like only yesterday I was moaning about Mondays, and on a sunny Tuesday in Medway all three of my targets had later opening than promised by Facebook/Google/website/smoke signals.

Of course, many brewery taps don’t open at all till Friday;

Thanks Wimbledon.

And many micros (and some top Proper Pubs) are closed till Thursday, which means the GBG ticker has to do double time at the weekends.

But, as I always say, pubs and breweries can open whenever they like; I just wish that collectively we could get a handle on when that is going to be.

  1. How soon they forget.

    During the Pandemic (in Uncle Albert voice) pubs got rather good at announcing “We’ll be open for an hour this coming Wednesday for socially distanced take-outs” … and one arrived to find a queue around the block. See, providing useful information helps sales.

    Fast forward to the now, with pubs the length & breadth chopping and changing opening hours for costs and (lack of) staffing reasons, and how many bother to take the couple of minutes to publish it?

    1. Exactly. I saw 3 different times for some pubs on Facebook, Google and the actual pub door.

      Someone will be along any minute to say “no-one cares about you tickers, the locals will know” but that’s a falsehood.

      I don’t complain about much. Virtually every pub is welcoming and has good beer.

  2. It would just be nice if the information was available on each platform they use (sign on the pub/web/Google/Facebook/Twitter etc) and the information is correct.

    Boring stuff is important.

    1. I got bored of the debate on CAMRA Discourse as folk seem determined to confuse the issue about what hours a pub is open with how they keep us informed.

      Google is probably reliable, though not on this Tuesday.

  3. As a micropub owner why should we update the opening hours? We’re not a zoo you know. This place is run for the benefit of us and our hobby. Not customers who may pop in once every 25 years.

    It was ok in the Covid because the government paid us grants and the furlough to do that sort of mullarky. Bring back the grants and we will open Tuesdays.
