I know that some of you, fellow completists perhaps, can’t get enough of these little pinked in Beer Guide extracts, and neither can Mrs RM who’s determined to get me round the remote corners of the UK.
I know this because the landlady tells me at length about the challenges of running a rural pub, shortly after letting us in (to huge relief) on the dot of 16:00.
Someone is even more excited than I am.
It’s a long, rambling multi-roomed place with Chesterfields and beams and a touch of class.
We sit by the bar and chat life. The landlady is hoping to retire soon, with family in Sandbach. She knows ALL the pubs in Sandbach. When Mrs RM mentions we’re visiting all the GBG pubs she tells us they’ve been in the Guide before, which confuses me as I’ve never been here, which torments me till 17:23 that evening.
The Ruffles Feathers is smooth and rich (NBSS 3+), the peanuts nutty, the welcome warm.
Mrs RM says “”You MUST see the room at the back !”.
She’s right.
That would make a great renovation project for someone. But not YOU, Mrs RM.
That fox reminds of Rees-Mogg. Did it leave a note on your table?

What a great looking place to retire. Makes one jealous.

Oddly. It’s Leominster down the road you’d like. Some great pubs, good Cafes, decent walking.

At this point would Maidenhead even look attractive to us?

So am I.
Forty (40) pubs to write up. And a Giant’s Causeway.
Hit Scotland in June.
