BAXENDEN – MORE THAN JUST THE HOME OF HOLLAND’S PIES

Let’s press on, the Black Dog was a bit depressing, and head to another tick in Greater Accrington.

Apart from glorious countryside, Baxenden is best known as the home of Hollands. I somehow missed this post-retirement job opportunity;

The Dog & Partridge is yet more proof that there’s more to the 2021 GBG than brewery taps and gin bars.

Sadly, the interior is more of that dull colour scheme that Pashmina Pauline can describe better than me.

And the beer range will only appeal to the purist.

But the welcome is a smiley one, they’re thrilled when I pay in cash, and I follow the 4pm crowd out into the advertised garden to enjoy a cool, foamy Landlord (NBSS 3+) in the company of half of Baxenden.

There’s a sign for the zoo, and true enough here it is. A zoo for those of us who believe that locking up live animals is wrong.

I take my glass back and say “I love your zoo“. The landlady’s face lights up. I head back to Accrington and buy a pie.

  5. I once went for a job interview at Holland’s Pies. I wasn’t successful – could have been awkward as I don’t actually like them. I don’t think they the old-fashioned style vans any more – I certainly never see them around.
