SUNSET OVER KELHAM ISLAND

You left me on the edge of Wicker, attempting to keep up with Mrs RM, an event that only happens when a) I stop to take photos of pub tiling or b) Mrs RM needs a loo stop.

Apart from the Asian takeaways and barbershops it was pretty dead.

But there’s always a reassuring glow coming from Carling pubs, even on Christmas Day. I should organise Xmas Day pub crawls.

Plenty of exploring still to do in Sheffield as we enter our 3rd week as Northerners. I’d completely forgotten about the wonderful pub on the banks of the Don. Which one ? Usual can of Stones to the winner.

We headed back through Kelham Island, and Mrs RM took some pics for her Facebook. They weren’t as good as mine of engines and Jarvis.

We used to bring the boys to the Industrial Museum years ago when they’d be compressed into steel in the play area while we’d nip out for a pint in the Fat Cat.

The area has developed beyond recognition in 20 years but still has a calm beauty.

But I’m glad we’re living a 1,000 feet up the river from the Don.

  1. I’ll wager that the massive, double cone-shaped vessel is a Bessemer converter, used in the manufacture of steel, but where’s Reg when you need him?

    c) she smells 10% or better ABV nearby? 😉

It will be a hit with better halves everywhere!
