Short posts, I’m afraid. Cambridge had its hottest ever day yesterday (100 degrees F), and the Swedish band I saw at the Blue Moon (Holy Now) had been swimming in the Cam to cool off. Unwise move.
The two new Guide pubs ticked, the classy place revisited after 20 years, it was time to find something that might trouble a future Guide.
But first, a bit more sumptuous old Sunderland for you.

Having taken “expert advice” I tipped up at the Engine Room, which is Sunderland’s answer to those Potting Shed bistros you see in posh places like Bingley.

The last few years have seen the heritage pubs like the Dun Cow revitalised, exotic pizza and craft in Park Lane (Port of Call) and now there’s an embryonic Cultural Quarter.
And we know how those end, don’t we ?

I’ve no idea what the Engine Room used to be.

Very smart; there’s Prosecco ladies and Chaps in blazers here. The sort of place Mrs RM goes to on corporate expenses.

All the choice you could ever want, but you have to go with the Anarchy. It’s the one the bloke in front had.

It’s the very embodiment of OK, I have to say, but the staff are pleasant and having visited it I’d hate to scupper its GBG chances as Si will enjoy the experience.

Enough modernism, time for some heritage.

“had been swimming in the Cam to cool off” reminds me that it’s 46 years since I’ve been in the Cam. .

Is the Cam quite polluted? Curious why swimming in it is a bad idea.

I guess it’s full of algae and craft beer?

It’s also quite shallow, hence the punts.

T’other Mudgie,
It was from a punt that I entered the Cam, as did a young woman from Horsham.

Is that a limerick?

I’d tell you the glory
of the rest of the story
But surely you don’t give a damn
