A PEMBROKE PIG-OUT

I know how you love my weird music and Chinese takeaway tips, but here’s a great chippy for next time you’re lost near Milford Haven.

Pembroke

£3.20 Anytime Day Return from the Docks to (old) Pembroke. I’m not wasting £3.20 when it’s only a 44 minute walk and you get views like this on the hill.

View from the B4322

The view from the Mill Pond was even better.

Tribute rather than Doom Bar, excitingly

The only thing I could have told you about Pembroke before this month was that the residents look down on the citizen of Pembroke Dock. Oh, and there’s a castle.

Nice photo composition if I say it myself

In 1997 the two pubs in Pembroke were the Castle (now keg) and the Old Cross Saws (now Doom Bar, apparently worse).

What could the 2019 GBG entry offer ?

Hotel & Restaurant

Well, US “Dave” Southworth had already judged the Old Kings Arms in advance  as “a bit foody“, and as I approached the door I suddenly felt an urge to skip the gastro and join a bloke with a huge plate of fish & chips from Rowlies at the table with castle view.

Well done, Rowlies

Rather magnificent, although no doubt a tub of curry sauce would have sealed the deal.

Unlike Wetherspoons, you don’t even get the terrifying calorie count with the bill.

I walked off about 12 of those calories on a five minute stroll, pondering how long before there’s a micro in that castle.

It’ll be closed

Five minutes is all you need for the town centre, which is even quieter than the Dock.

Weird lighthouse

Allegedly the oldest pub in Pembroke, dating back to 1520″ screams WhatPub.

Which just shows how boring old stuff can be (see also: Stonehenge).

This is the best I could do. And it’s not that great.

Older than BRAPA, apparently

Two small hotel style rooms, one a restaurant and the other a “King’s Bar”with more rooms set for diners.

The atmosphere was civil but sullen, I was called “Sir” three times, and there was nowhere to sit inside.

Four beers was clearly far too many for the cask drinker, so it is with some regret I report the Double Dragon was an easy NBSS 3+, cool and tasty.  These things happen.

I even got a “thank you Sir” as I left.  How weird is that ?

  1. “View from the B4322”

Hang on, that’s the same street your lodging was on.

“The view from the Mill Pond was even better.”

Was the tide in or out?

“Nice photo composition if I say it myself”

I can see the resemblance. 😉

    “Well done, Rowlies”

Indeed. A pint would go perfect with that.

    “It’ll be closed”

Naw. It will be open but judging by that photo getting into it will be harder than finding your lodging at the docks!

    “Weird lighthouse”

Pfft. That’s ND Toy and Partners two doors down. 🙂

    “Older than BRAPA, apparently”

    On this blog, what isn’t?
(and I’m referring to us that reads it)

“the Double Dragon was an easy NBSS 3”

Is that the clip between Warrior and the one without any vowels?

    “How weird is that ?”

Weird indeed. Shouldn’t that have been said in Welsh?

    Cheers
