“Show us yer spreadsheets” demands reader Mr D Mackay of Paisley, Renfrewshire. You may recall that Pubmeister is the chap who has nowhere to go now he’s finished the Guide (several times), and is resigned to photographing plastic phalluses in South Shields and setting up a nudist colony on a remote Scottish island.
Anyway, here’s my state of play as of today, GBG progress by “county”*.

Below that summary is a list of the 10,695 GBG pubs I’ve been to, scored for beer quality and occasionally flagged up as a Top 100 pub.
SUMMARY
With two weeks before GBG19 lands on doorsteps everywhere (probably a week if you live in That London, bless you), I’m at 87.4% completion, which is a metaphor for my life when you think about it. Anyone who remembers my accountancy careers may wonder why I’m not rounding that up to 90%.
Despite having been to 514 new pubs this year, that’s still 73 pubs short of my target for the year. If I can find a town with 73 new pubs where the beer’s so awful I can tip it down the urinal I can still do this.
Anyway, it’s all about the love of beer, isn’t it ?

The bad news is that, with around 400 new GBG pubs annually (micros, tap room, Brewhouse & Kitchens etc etc), you’d need to do at least 500 new pubs a year to progress. Good luck with that, BRAPA.
Still, up to 48 counties completed now, but that just means it’s harder to accumulate new ticks. I really need a month in Devon and Cornwall, but apparently you still need to cook tea for your 17 year old at 5pm each day which is the main practical barrier at present. Hopefully Matt will be off to Uni/join a hardcore metal band as a roadie next year, or reader Pauline may adopt him for a month.
Now, where’s the map of the Isle of Wight ?

*DON’T start on counties, Mudgie !
Ah this is so lovely, all those columns and highlighted counties. You should definitely let me do some chaffeuring in Scotland to get your numbers up. Either that or get Matt to go to Glasgow or Aberdeen University. Looking at your requirements, he may also be interested in Exeter or Plymouth!

Matt’s Uni choice driven entirely by quality of gig venues. Which, oddly, is more likely to mean Brighton or Salford at the moment. No use to me at all !

Quite clearly Martin is a Mrs Krankie-o-phobe! With a clear south east bent.

Don’t tell anyone but he’s paying me to knock a few west country ‘ticks’ off when I’m down in Dorset for the next few weeks. All I need to do is to drink beers that I’d never ever choose, take photos of reproduction Bass mirrors and no one will ever know.

It’s an increasingly murky world this beer ticking in more than one sense! I expect a post from him in about six months entitled ‘How the West was won.’ Dorset is a beautiful county.

It’s called outsourcing, never fails.

Of course this does neglect the possibility of relocating once child school days are finished. A potential move to a more salubrious environment like Stockport, or Maidenhead.

Solitary confinement in the cellar at Maidenhead Cos Club with that barrel of Rebellion still on !

If RM Jnr is off to university soon he needs to learn to cook. Get him a load of beef mince, bacon, eggs, spuds, onions and stuff and leave him to his own devices.

Not till Sep 19, if at all, Bill. But you’re spot on with that advice.

Pork and baps is easier.
The two can go very nicely together – especially if washed down with a pint or few of Holdens.

Isn’t it the law that all students are Vegan now? Or does being a Death Metal fan negate that?

Architects, the top metalcore band (sold out Ally Pally) are certainly vegans, but Matt would eat a vegan

Seen them twice! All up to date and with it me. If that comment doesn’t put RM jr off them for life he really is a music fan.
Think you’d have to marinade a vegan for quite a while to make it edible.

He’s devastated (I told him you were over 25).
He has patience…

When I was 17 I was cooking tea for paying customers in the old mans pub, nothing fancy; Ham and Eggs (proper gammon ham, fried NOT cold boiled ham like you seem to get down south). Burgers, Cheese burgers, Steak Canadien (remember them), Roast (whatever it was that day) sandwiches. I wouldn’t have starved, and we had to serve on in the pub and go and do a night shift down the pit and go to school in the morning!

Yes! I was going to say they learned us how to cook, but at a family event yesterday I was reminded that I actually got banned from cookery lessons for f…ing about! And look at me now!

You were lucky.
When I were 17 we might get bread and dripping once a week.
I would have been thankful for a sit down at school five days a week and in our hovel occasionally dreamt of having an old mans pub to go home to.
But we were ‘appy back then.
The hipsters of today don’t know they’re born.

When we were seventeen at least we had pits where we could do a proper night shift for our beer money.

This Scottish nudist colony – is it called Jocks Away ?
News from the Forgotten Coast of Florida – the beer is almost universally shite including the mango Belgian wheat beer the missus brought down to the beach with my lunch today.
And after two days we’re still trying to find a restaurant that serves vegetables.
On the plus side even a fat basrard like me looks slim here.
Friendly people though and no Canadians ….

mango Belgian wheat beer – but that’s exactly the progressive beer style that modern beer drinkers “demand” says CAMRA.
No Canadians ? You mean there’s more than one ?

The locals learned how to be friendly from the Canadians that come down every winter. 🙂
And yes, none there now as they won’t arrive till the first snow hits up north.

Still a superb effort this year, I’d like to see a column for blog posts per hour too.

What, for me, or my robot blogging team. The blogs write themselves once you’ve got photos uploaded; it’s the grammar corrections that take all day :-))

Good Lord. Thank goodness for computers what? And I hope you have a few backup copies. 🙂
“Anyway, it’s all about the love of beer, isn’t it ?”
Some people would say by pouring it straight into the urinal you’re just cutting out the middle man. 😉
“Good luck with that, BRAPA. ”
Especially with a wonky knee! (LOL)
“but apparently you still need to cook tea for your 17 year old at 5pm each day”
I’m thinking it’s time to teach him self reliance; or maybe pan handling. 🙂
Cheers
