Pubmeister, the man who knows a thing or two about Beer Guide completion, was pondering the merits of revisiting a pub you’ve already done in the comments. And he’s right; to visit 500+ new Guide pubs a year you can’t really afford to be distracted by return visits.
Just as questionable is the practice of doing a new pub that might be in the Beer Guide next year. Pre-emptive ticks should be afforded the same status as jam jars, say I.
So after a newbie (Goat), and an oldie but goodie (Cottage), there was no logic in completing a Chester hat-trick with a place that may never grace the Guide. But the Deva Tap looked at me with sad pussy cat eyes as I made my way to the station (the actual Chester one this time), only partly distracted by the street art and the presence of a suburb called Flookersbrook.

The Deva Tap used to be called Kash, a much more befitting name for a Cheshire bar (oh dear, just had a flashback to Chime).

Inside it looks like a church, and has a darn sight more character than your square box micro, a few drinkers mingling happily with family pizza munchers.

Pleasingly, they’d got a local primary school to design the wall art.

These crafty places with beer listed on a blackboard are now as ubiquitous as micro pubs, aren’t they ?

To its credit, it didn’t have Meantime, Camden and Amstel on craft taps. And it did have you know what. P*** P**t**.

I had the Salopian Kashmir, to be contrary. And because Salopian are the Oakham of the west. Cool and intoxicating, NBSS 3.5. Drunk much too quickly, as I realised that Chester station isn’t as tiny as Bache and might need more than 20 seconds to negotiate.
But as you’ve probably guessed by now, I only bring you this post to show you what the youth of Chester are wearing this year (top photo). The sooner Simon gets Cheshire complete, the better.
Are you sure the wall art isn’t just an updated version of the street art from a couple of posts ago?

That title pic is disturbing. But for a drop of Salopian Kashmir – or any of their beers- a revisit or a prophylactic tick is not just permissible but positively desirable.

Chuckled at the “Stuff you haven’t heard of” caption– too true, and the 2nd one from the right seems to be saying “What, you think pump clips should include the name of the beer? Get with the times, man!”

Well spotted ! Yes, gets harder and harder to read pump clips, which is what makes Bass and Otter and Dark Star so tempting !
