ODDFELLOWS

Next stop after the Tiger was the Pursuit of Hoppiness, which eagle-eyed readers will recall me writing about at the time, which feels about 100 posts ago.

Gold cards not welcome

Top beer, big choice, a cert for a future Beer Guide. What GBG future that leaves trad Palmers pubs like the Oddfellows, I have no idea. Out on a limb on the edge of town, I guess. In fact it’ll probably be listed under Allington next year, just to confuse us tickers.

Allington or North Bridport

A pleasant walk up the hill.

St Swithuns

And a robust looking local about to open at 5.30.  Lunchtime opening hours of 11-1 may be unique, if irritating to the ticker.

Proper Pub

WhatPub says “unpretentious“, and if West Dorset CAMRA think a pub is unpretentious you know not to expect Brunning & Price.

The 3rd Bridport GBG entry is another Proper Pub, this one catering for the locals with cheap beer and the first table skittles I’ve seen in a while.  Look how well I did.

One of the most comfortable atmospheres I’ve experienced too, with chatty locals and longstanding landlady happy to talk Palmers and Bridport at length.

Expert pull

I thought the Copper was terrific, too (NBSS 3.5), as good as I’d had in longstanding rural  GBG entries like the New Inn in Kilmington, a Palmers benchmark.

You must visit the Palmers brewery” she said.  One brewery visit is enough.

Look at the froth on that pint.

Foam

And as for the loos, those of a nervous disposition should look away now…

  1. “Look how well I did.”

Post a video or I’m not buying it. 😉

    “Frothblowers alert”

Isn’t it supposed to be thicker than that?

    “Foam”

    But very little lacing. 🙂

    “£1.27”

I think there’s a bit more hiding under the thingy to the left. 🙂

Apart from that, looks a goodun.

    Cheers

    1. Don’t spoil my achievements by demanding evidence, Russ. Russians do that.

There was more than £1.27 in there, but I had to give 20% commission to the young boy I got to rescue those coins.

    1. Lyme Regis was a town I expected to be upscale, but was unpretentious. You could tell people had really nice homes there but it did not feel like it was trying too hard. Interesting area I thought.

  2. So people are throwing coins into the urinal “fountain”, presumably for good luck? It does make you wonder what becomes of those coins, and what soul has the decidedly poor luck of having to scoop them out!

Love that photo at the top; makes me feel I’m right there at the bar. Thanks for including that photo of the skittles table– have never seen one of those before.

      1. Just be aware Dave, we won’t be shaking hands.*

        Cheers

*Hands that touch urinal pennies will never touch mine! (just kidding) 🙂
