May 2024. Worfield. Bridgnorth.
The Dog and Davenport ticked, we did “the culture” in Worfield (pop. 2,242).
Honestly, Mrs RM used to berate me for only wanting to do pubs and churches while I was completing the GBG, but what else is there ?
Well, there’s a walk between pub and church that takes all of 2 minutes,
and takes in this impressive bit of timber.
But that’s your lot, so let’s tick St Peter’s.
If Coventry Cathedral is the ecclesiastical equivalent of Cafe Beermoth, then St Peters is a Batham’s pub of a church, solid and satisfying.
The door’s left open so we can explore without an enthusiastic volunteer telling us the history of thebell tower. Do I look like someone care about history ?
Ooh, bell clappers. Don’t see those often.
Don’t see many upper levels, either.
Great stained glass,
an inspirational Verse of the Day
and one of those card readers at the door to take your donation.
I’ll score it a NCSS 4.
“Can we go now ?” said Mrs RM, anxious to get to the next pub.
If more people cared about history, the world wouldn’t be in the mess it is today.

If less people cared about history, the world wouldn’t be in the mess it is today.
And there’d be more people in the pub.

I suppose it depends on whether or not people harbour grudges from past history Martin, although either way I don’t see any connection with the number of people in the pub.
Changing times, and harsh economic realities are the factors affecting pubs today, and as Tandleman so wisely says, we are the generation who have seen the best of pubs.

You speak sense as always, Paul. I just think people would be happier if they didn’t bear grudges from years back and just went down the pub with each other to drink soda or beer or coffee rather than killing each other.

Killing each other rather than going down the pub.
I never thought of that.
