You can’t really claim to have visited a German city till you’ve bought a pastry in Rewe, misunderstood the local transport system, and checked in a beer on Untappd.

At Brauhaus Bonnsch you go for the cloudy Kolsch in a weird vessel that’s vaguely reminiscent of that Lees glass you stole in 2016.

Pubby at the front,

with some great reminders of Bonn’s political,

and musical heritage,

it’s otherwise a large, smart, family diner with immaculate loos.

The “naturtrub” tasted more like wheat beer, but pleasant enough,

though the mineral water bottle reminded me of a certain beer I’d been enjoying in Burton a week ago.

If ever there was an example of the Germany preference for content over presentation it was the bargain lunch.

Schnitzel, croquettes, peas and bacon. The sort of pub grub you expect to see on the Black Country. Mmmm.
