March 2026. Wuppertal. Germany.

We’re following the self-guided tour map for Elberfeld, centre of the nascent tourist trade for Wuppertal.
I guess you’ll be wanting to see a pub. Sadly there isn’t a pub guide for Wuppertal, perhaps Mrs RM will do one; but there’s loads of Untappd check-ins;

That King’s Head has bottles of Sam Smiths, Shepherd Neame and St Peter’s, in among the Belgian stuff.
But, like all the other interesting sounding bars in the historic centre of Luisenviertel,

it’s not open till late afternoon, and our only option is more bistro than boozer.

Katzengold is a classy affair, and not just by Wuppertal standards,

though pop down to the (spotless) loos for graffiti and games and you might not think so.

The ubiquitous Starnberger Hell and a Jever Fun I have no recollection of ordering.

Mrs RM quickly swapped beers after tasting the “Fun”. Note her laser like focus on that apple cake (top).

Katzengold looked a good option for lunch, though nothing compared with the artisanal offer at La Casa de Café.

Paul Young sang a song about that, you know. But not in German.
On the walk back to the station along Friedrich-Ebert-Straße the town looks lively and pleasant,

and you get some unexpected gems, like “A New Successful Day“.

That bloke was doing handstands when he should have been operating the monorail, mind.
